If you were up and about at around 6 a.m. Friday morning, you may have seen a string of bright lights in the sky to the east. That string was a batch of the SpaceX Starlink satellites. Starlink is a satellite internet constellation by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX. When it’s fully completed, the constellation will consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in low orbit. Some of the satellite space may be used for military purposes, but most of it will provide satellite internet access. This week, SpaceX has begun taking pre-orders from potential customers for $99. If you eventually want the Starlink service, you will need the Starlink kit for $499, which includes a router and a dish. The service will then be $99 a month. Product development started in 2015, with deployment beginning back in 2019.
