Man Who Held Two People Against Their Will Near Ash Fork Sentenced After Accepting A Plea Deal

A man that held two people against their will near Ash Fork last June accepted a plea deal and was sentenced earlier this month. Thirty-five-year-old Nicholas Barone was involved in a standoff with Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies in the area of Quarry Road in Kaibab Estates West. Deputies arrived at the scene after operators received a 9-1-1 hang up call. Barone was being difficult, refusing to let the victims speak with authorities. Eventually they were safely removed from the residence. It was then discovered Barone had several felony charges from the previous couple of weeks. After a four-and-a-half hour standoff, he was taken into custody. Barone was originally booked on nine counts related to the incident. He agreed to a plea deal in March and pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment and misconduct involving a weapon. He was sentenced in a Coconino County Superior courtroom back on April 4th to a year-and-a-half in prison. He’s required to serve at least 85-percent of the sentence and was credited with 301 days of time served already. He will have to serve three years probation after he is released.
