Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in a standoff with a man wanted out of Maricopa County in the Village of Oak Creek Wednesday. At around 12:45 p.m., the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was asked to assist in executing a search warrant on 44-year-old Herb Ludewig from Sedona. Ludewig was wanted on charges, which included aggravated assault on law enforcement. Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were simultaneously serving a search warrant on the man for a possible connection to a homicide. Ludwig was with four other people in the home in the Village of Oak Creek near Jacks Canyon Road. YCSO negotiators failed to get Ludwig to leave the house, but three others peacefully exited. The fourth person was found in a shed. She and one other person were booked on unrelated outstanding warrants. YCSO SWAT, along with Verde Valley SWAT and vehicle support from Prescott Police SWAT, entered the home and found Ludwig hiding in a closet. YCSO found 20 firearms and pipe bomb making materials inside. Detectives also found drug paraphernalia and substances thought to be meth and cocaine. Ludewig was arrested on the outstanding warrants and faces new charges in the incident. The case remains under investigation.
