A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was found near the switchbacks of Oak Creek Canyon back in August. Coconino County Sheriff’s officials say a man was arrested in Portland, Oregon Tuesday. He was identified on ATM video surveillance and other business video associated with purchases and withdrawals made both before and after 87-year-old Alan Arvey’s body was discovered along Highway 89A. The transactions and video led investigators to 55-year-old Michael Wyffels of Sun City. He was taken into custody by officials in Beaverton, Oregon August 28th in connection with credit card fraud there. Wyffels had been released from the Arizona Department of Corrections on August 16th, the day before Avery’s death. Wyffels was transported to Flagstaff Tuesday and has been booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on charges of first degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and theft by means of transportation. He is being held on three-million dollars bond.
