Man Arrested Friday After He Brought A Pellet Gun Onto Flagstaff High School Campus

A man was arrested Friday after he brought a pellet gun onto the Flagstaff High School campus. An email was sent to school staff late Friday afternoon saying a report was made to the office that a transient was on school property, along Kendrick Street near the day care center. The person who made the report said the suspect had a weapon in his bag. Police were called and the suspect was immediately taken into custody off campus. He was searched and the pellet gun was found. The man has been charged with trespassing. However Superintendent Michael Penca said in the email, “it was determined there was no firearm involved since it was a pellet gun.” Quick work by police and school officials kept things calm at the school, which was not only in session but the Pepsi Holiday Basketball Tournament was being played in two gyms, with numerous fans and teams coming and going on and off campus all day. Because of the incident, Flagstaff High School will undergo a lockdown drill next week before finals begin on Wednesday.
