A man was arrested on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges after he ingested an unknown amount of unknown pills Friday. Coconino County Sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Ryan Clark Petzoldt met the victim, his girlfriend, at Kaibab Lake, where he ordered her into his vehicle and left. Petzoldt assaulted the woman repeatedly, striking her in the face and strangled her on two occasions while driving to his home in Valle, north of Williams. While at the house, Petzoldt threatened to kill the woman on three occasions, holding up pliers and other items, stating he would stab her to death with them. Petzoldt was believed to have taken illegal drugs and drank alcohol before the incident. He eventually passed out in the master bedroom enabling the victim to leave, taking his vehicle. As deputies responded to the home, Petzoldt called dispatch saying he took an unknown amount of pills and wanted to end his life. Deputies were able to get to him and take him into custody without incident. He was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center where he is being treated. Upon his release, Petzoldt will be booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility for two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of threatening and intimidating and kidnapping. The incident is under investigation.
