Man Arrested For Impersonating A Prescott Valley Police Officer

A man was arrested for impersonating a Prescott Valley Police officer last Sunday morning. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say a detention officer reported there was a white passenger vehicle displaying emergency lights on a light bar, on the roof and rear window, pulling behind other cars on the road and activating the lights. The officer pulled up next to the vehicle and asked the driver if he was a law enforcement officer and he said, “maybe.” After leaving the scene, the detention officer issued a notice to local law enforcement agencies with the license plate. The vehicle was found at a home in the 37-hundred block of North Navajo Drive in Prescott Valley. Deputies talked to 72-year-old Joseph Collins and denied trying to pull anyone over. He did admit to following a driver with a possible medical condition out of concern for her safety. He said the lights and the light bar were just safety devices. Deputies looked at the vehicle and it had similar equipment on it to a police vehicle. Collins was arrested on one felony count of impersonating a police officer. If anyone has had contact with Collins, contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
