The City of Prescott says lease negotiations between a local property owner and a telecommunications company over a cell phone tower have ceased. City officials say in a message to the company’s representative, the property owner’s attorney stated the owner has “no interest” in pursuing the lease agreement that would have placed a cell tower in the Yavapai Hills neighborhood of Prescott. The Prescott City Council will discuss proposed changes to the city’s Land Development Code Tuesday that would discourage building of cell towers in residential areas, while incentivizing construction in commercial and industrial districts. The proposed changes include other provisions designed to minimize impact on residential areas and reduce the number of new towers by stating intent for the sharing of towers wherever possible.
