Townsend Winona Road was closed west of Leupp Road after an accident Tuesday morning involving an Amerigas truck, carrying 25-hundred pounds of propane. Coconino County Sheriff’s officials say an accident between the truck and a Jeep Cherokee happened at around 8:50 a.m. at the junction of the two roads. The accident caused the propane truck to leak. Deputies say the driver of the Cherokee had dropped his phone and while reaching down to pick it up, drifted over the center line, hitting the tanker in the rear axel, tearing it off the truck. Both drivers were treated at the scene. Traffic returned to normal later in the afternoon. Amerigas issued a statement in regards to the accident. They say “Our drivers are specifically trained to respond to accidents to ensure the safety of themselves and others involved. The actions of our driver in the accident that occurred on Townsend Winona Road on January 31st were critical to lessening the situation. We worked closely with local authorities to execute proper safety protocols, and do not anticipate a disruption to deliveries in the area.”
