Kaibab National Forest fire managers are planning a burn at the Moonset Pit near Parks Monday. The pit is a green waste disposal site near Parks. The pit is usually burned in the winter months, but fire managers decided to burn it now due to a faster and more complete consumption, coupled with better smoke ventilation and ultimately reducing long lingering heat in the pit that takes place during the winter. The pit serves the area for disposal of natural forest debris and is located just west of Parks, east of Spitz Springs on the north side of Old Route 66. Motorists are asked to avoid active hot areas and are reminded to use caution and drive with heightened awareness when going through the area.
