The Kaibab National Forest will begin marking trees within the 14-hundred acre Government Prairie Project north of Parks this month. The reason is to prepare the area for a future timber sale as part of the Four Forest Restoration Initiative, or 4FRI. The area is just over five miles north of Route 66 and Spring Valley Road. Thinning in the area is anticipated to begin in early 2021. The project is one of several grassland restoration projects that have been implemented or are planned across the southern two districts of the Kaibab National Forest. For more information on 4FRI, log onto fs.usda.gov/4FRI.
