A 77-year-old man passed away this week at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. National Park officials responded to an emergency call on a river trip on Tuesday below Deer Creek Falls along the Colorado River. Responding rangers immediately initiated life-saving techniques on Kenneth Reece from Tasmania, Australia upon arrival, but he pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say Reece was swimming in the area of the falls and was pulled from the water by other river trip members who initiated CPR. Reece’s body was airlifted from the scene and taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office in Flagstaff. The investigation into his death is ongoing.
