Law enforcement along Interstate-40 will be conducting a New Year’s Eve DUI task force. Agencies participating in the event include the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Flagstaff Police, DPS, Winslow Police, Williams Police and the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement will be bulked up New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to help keep the roads safe. Authorities say if you are arrested and convicted of DUI, you can face a low-end cost of around $5,000. That does not include missed time at work or with family. DUI results in mandatory jail time if convicted, with a minimum of one night in jail and incarceration increases with severity of the crime. If you happen to go out to celebrate, make sure you have a designated driver, get a cab or Uber or just stay home.
