A man is in custody in connection with an investigation into fires started inside a Flagstaff Walmart early Saturday morning. Flagstaff Police officers arrived at the store on Huntington Drive at around 3 a.m. When they arrived they helped evacuate the store and noticed heavy smoke with the store’s sprinkler system activated. Police say a Native American male was seen leaving sections of the store where the fires started. Police say the man then walked toward the front of the store and attempted to shoplift a shopping cart full of camping items, but was stopped by security. The man then fled the scene. Saturday night, police arrested Cody Yazzie after solid evidence led to his arrest. He has been charged with five counts of endangerment, false information to law enforcement, drug possession and promoting contraband into a correctional facility. Yazzie was also booked on an unrelated warrant for trespassing. He remains in custody on $250-thousand dollars bond. The store suffered severe fire and water damage and will be closed until further notice.
