A hiker discovered human remains in the McGuireville area north of Rimrock on New Year’s Day. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area at around 1:30 p.m. Deputies hiked into the area and confirmed human remains were found in an advanced state of decay at the bottom of a sandy wash. The remains were taken out of the area on Saturday and sent to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office. Detectives are aware of the missing person case out of West Covina, California, in which the missing person’s vehicle was found abandoned by DPS state troopers on September 23rd, at the McGuireville rest stop. A search by troopers that day along with an extensive subsequent search by YCSO search teams, was not successful in locating the missing person. The Medical Examiner is aware of the case and in contact with the family.
