The Grand Falls east of Flagstaff, also known as the Chocolate Falls, has been temporarily closed to visitors by residents of the area, until further notice. Area leaders say the increased popularity of the falls has resulted in the accumulation of overflowing trash, alcohol containers, ATV groups off-roading into residential areas and non-designated roads, deterioration of road maintenance and disturbance of the natural ecosystem, its inhabitants and cultural sites. The Grand Falls is located inside the Navajo Nation, within the boundary of the Leupp Chapter. The falls are not under national, county, city or park service and the decision is backed by the Navajo Nation Parks. Leaders say any visitors, who are non-residents, will be asked to leave until further notice.
