The Grand Canyon National Park could close temporarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. Coconino County Supervisor Jim Parks says park officials, along with Tusayan officials are recommending the closure of the park. The Coconino County Board of Supervisors concurred after a meeting today in Flagstaff. The Board of Supervisors released a statement Thursday calling for the closure of the park.
The person who makes the call to close the park is Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. Parks said the recommendation will be made to Secretary Bernhardt to close the park. Parks made the comments on a Facebook Live session on the county’s Facebook page Tuesday. Yosemite, Alcatraz and Yellowstone are other national parks that have closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
