Governor Ducey Wants To Nix Financial Incentive For A New Nike Center After A Controversial Decision

Governor Doug Ducey is speaking out against Nike, a day after the Goodyear City Council approved a new factory that would bring over 500 jobs to the state. The reason Ducey is putting the reigns on Nike is because of a “Wall Street Journal” article that came out Monday that says Nike was set to launch a shoe celebrating the Betsy Ross Flag. The paper says then Nike reversed its course after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick told the company it shouldn’t sell a shoe with a symbol that he and others consider offensive. Ducey called the decision embarrassing for Nike and a “shameful retreat.” Ducey announced that he is ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to “withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion that the state was providing the company to locate here.”
