Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed the bill on a new law for Arizona Wednesday. Sponsored by Senator Tyler Pace, Senate Bill 1273 will allow two-wheeled motorcyclists to pass a stopped vehicle in the same lane going in the same direction. The passing is only allowed when the motorcycle is going less than 15 miles per hour in a speed limit that doesn’t exceed 45-miles-per-hour. Supporters of the law says the bill allows for “lane filtering,” which is used in cases where traffic is backed up and a motorcyclist can safely move in between lanes. The law is aimed to keep motorcyclists safe and ease the overall flow of traffic. ADOT says in 2020 there were 160 deaths in motorcycle-related crashes in Arizona.
