Governor Doug Ducey is allocating $115-million of CARES Act funding to the state’s three universities to support their COVID-19 response. Ducey says “our universities continue to go the extra mile to fight the spread of COVID-19, protect our communities, and ensure students’ needs are met.” Of the $115-million, NAU will receive $23-million from the CARES Act. NAU President Rita Cheng says “at Northern Arizona University, we have worked diligently to provide testing, enhance contact tracing, and ensure students can learn safely and effectively.” The governor’s office says ASU, Arizona and NAU have “stepped up to protect public health and ensure students continue to have opportunities during the pandemic. Today’s funding will help cover some of the costs that were directly COVID-related, including testing and mitigation efforts, increased distance learning, student outreach, furlough prevention, and more.”
