The Flagstaff Unified School District is sticking with CDC guidelines, and Governor Ducey’s executive order, which makes mask and vaccine mandates illegal for schools and districts to implement. In a webinar earlier this week, FUSD superintendent Michael Penca says students can wear a mask, but it’s by choice. He said they have informed staff district schools that they are “encouraging the use (of masks) and making sure that we understand that individual choice will be supported and respected either way.” Penca also says that in-person learning is the district’s priority. FUSD is offering remote-learning for those who want to take advantage of it. The Flagstaff Online Academy is available for grades K-through-four and Northern Arizona Distance Learning for grades five-through 12. For more information, log onto fusd1.org. Classes at Flagstaff area schools begin next week.
