All classes and activities at all Flagstaff Unified School District schools, and pre-schools, have been canceled once again on Friday due to a “cyber security threat” that hit the district Wednesday. Even though school is closed tomorrow, varsity football games at Coconino and Flagstaff’s game at the Skydome will still be played. Officials say the threat “has impacted the ability of FUSD schools to operate normally.” The attack was from “ransomware,” which is a powerful malware program. Officials say even though classes are canceled, “progress has been made, but additional time is needed to comprehensively address the issue.” The district says all FUSD issued devices, including laptops, at all sites need to be updated. They are calling for all FUSD employees to bring any Windows-based laptops to Sinagua Middle School by 9 a.m. Friday so IT officials can update software enhancements Friday and through the weekend. Apple products are not impacted by the incident. Officials say no personally identifiable information has been released.
