Classes at Mount Elden Middle School have been canceled for Thursday. Flagstaff Unified School District officials say the school was briefly evacuated Wednesday after there was a smell of gas on campus. Flagstaff Fire and gas company crews found the source of the issue, which was a pressure discharge that was the result of a rapid change of temperature overnight. Crews isolated the issue and classes resumed. FUSD worked with the gas company and the City of Flagstaff to ensure that it won’t happen again. Crews discovered a key piece of equipment would need to be replaced before school can resume. Gas has been shut off at MEMS and the equipment will be replaced Thursday. Classes are expected to resume on Friday.
