The re-entry plan for Flagstaff Unified School District Schools has been revised and was unanimously adopted by the governing board Wednesday. Superintendent Michael Penca went over the changes, which included facial coverings. The wearing of masks or facial coverings will still be required, when social distancing isn’t possible. However, there are exceptions. Any students who has difficulty breathing, or a note from a doctor indicating they can’t wear a face covering, as well as anyone who is incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask or covering, will not be required to wear face coverings at school. Students and staff may bring their own face coverings to and from school, each FUSD employee will be provided a face covering during the school year. The same protocols will exist on school buses. As for the return options, all stayed in place from last week. Option one is in-person learning, or a return to classrooms for K-through-12. Option Two is a flexible remote learning plan for students K-through-12. With this plan, students would start out at home and can transfer into school if need be. With option two, students will be required to attend class from home, using video conference such as Zoom. Parents who select option one will have the option to switch the student into option two. Option Three is distance learning through Northern Arizona Distance Learning. Penca says school would start August 17th, but online classes could start sooner. Of course, anything could change due to the COVID-19 pandemic and any decisions that could be made by the state Department of Education. FUSD is planning a future online town hall to address any questions parents may have.
