Flagstaff saw another round of storms Wednesday. The bulk of the rain fell in the Timberline and Wupatki Trails area. Flood waters shut down Highway 89 for several hours, as water rushed over the highway near the turnoff to Sunset Crater. Southbound 89 opened after about an hour, while northbound was closed until later in the evening. Around three-quarters of an inch of rain fell in a short time over the already damp, burned land. The areas of Pipeline West should see an abundance of sandbags today. The city of Flagstaff is receiving a large shipment of pre-made bags, that will be placed at the “Schultz Y.” Many bags were placed around the Coconino Estates neighborhoods Wednesday, to help flood victims get a better hold on future flooding. There is another strong chance of showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rain at times, across the flood areas again from today through at least the middle of next week.
