Flagstaff’s Billy Weldon was named “America’s Favorite Crossing Guard” by Safe Kids Worldwide Tuesday. Weldon has been a volunteer crossing guard at Marshall Elementary School for 13 years. A Flagstaff favorite, Weldon is a decorated Vietnam War veteran with two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart and attends many military funerals around the state when he can. He is also the commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter in Flagstaff and he also won the 2019 “Leader of America Award” back in January. Weldon also played a large role in the veteran’s home currently under construction on McMillan Mesa. He will be the grand marshal of Friday’s Flagstaff Graduation Procession down Fourth Street in Flagstaff, celebrating the 2020 graduates of Flagstaff, Summit and Coconino high schools.
