After three days of games, the champions of the 2021 Pepsi Holiday Basketball Tournament were decided Saturday. The girls title game pitted the Flagstaff Eagles against the Pima Roughriders, who were arguably the best two teams in the tournament. The Eagles beat Pima 63-46. Flagstaff’s Gracelyn Nez and Sage Begay were named to the all-tournament team, as was Coconino’s Wynter Huskie. Sedona Red Rock beat Tuba City to win third place in the tournament. On the boys side, the Coconino Panthers took on the Paradise Honors Panthers in the championship game. The Paradise Honors lost to St. Mary’s by two points in the 4A state championship game last year. Coconino played arguably their best game of the season thus far in a semifinal win over Pima. Coconino battled and stayed with Paradise Honors, but fell 59-45. Coconino’s Ivory Washington and Mitchell Jacobson made the all-tournament team along with Flagstaff’s Morgan Quotskuyva. Flagstaff is back in action Monday at home against Coronado. Coconino will be on the road Tuesday at Greenway.
