The recent fall Dump The Drugs/Shred-A-Thon event put on by the Flagstaff Police Department was a great success. The event hosted over 300 vehicles and collected over 205 pounds of expired medications, vitamins, and various drugs. In addition, Ponderosa Medical Waste Services collected over 176 gallons of hypodermic needles, syringes, and over the counter medications; which will be delivered to the Blue Hills Environmental Services Medical Waste disposal facility. Elevated Shredding reported collecting and destroying over nine-thousand pounds of secure paper materials, which is equivalent to saving all of the following: 68 trees, over 17-hundred gallons of oil, 13-and-a-half cubic yards of landfill space, 18 kilowatts of energy, and 31,500 gallons of water. R3e collected all of the electronics waste and the City of Flagstaff Hazardous Materials Center collected over 27-hundred pounds of latex paint, nearly 11-hundred pounds of batteries, 64 pounds of CFL’s, 122 pounds of Fluorescent tubes, and 167 pounds of aerosols. The spring event will take place in April.
