Flagstaff Police used the DPS helicopter Tuesday to patrol forest areas within the city limits for possible illegal camping. Police Sergeant Charles Hernandez tells KAFF News, they used the chopper and officers “to locate and identify abandoned or occupied camps in the area after receiving reports of people camping and such.” He adds, “we are trying to get a jump start on fire prevention efforts and identify people who may need resources in those areas.” The patrol lasted about a half-hour, but created a buzz for residents along East Route 66.
