Flagstaff Police Officer Commended For Saving A Person’s Life In Early February

A Flagstaff Police officer is being commended for his quick work in saving a person’s life in early February. Officials say officer Jason Nguyen responded to a suicidal subject call, on the overpass of the east interchange back on February 5th. Officer Nguyen arrived with other officers while the individual was seated on the edge of the overpass, directly above Route 66. Officers attempted to de-escalate and calm the suicidal subject, prompting the individual to climb onto a more stable area adjacent to the overpass structure. The individual who was obviously upset and began walking back toward the edge of the overpass where he was originally located. Officer Nguyen reached over the concrete barrier as the individual walked away from him and grabbed the individual’s clothing. Officer Nguyen continues to hold onto the individual until other officers were able to assist in moving him away from the ledge. Officer Nguyen is commended for his swift and decisive action in grabbing the suicidal individual and holding on to him until fellow officers could help with moving the individual to the roadway side of the concrete barrier. Officer Nguyen placed himself in danger of being pulled onto the other side of the concrete barrier, however, his actions helped resolve a potentially tragic event. Police say Officer Nguyen’s actions are evident of his selfless commitment to the Department’s mission of preserving life.
