Flagstaff Police are investigating a fire that apparently was started by someone throwing a “Molotov cocktail.” Officers responded to an area behind the Summit Park Condominiums at 14-hundred block of North Fourth Street at around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday morning on reports of a fire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a large pine tree and an unattached garage burning, as well as other small fires burning on the ground. Fire officials say the fire started to spread into the backside of a row of detached garages. Fire personnel worked to extinguish the fire while officers searched the area for possible suspects. Investigators on scene located glass bottles filled with what is believed to be gasoline, and paper pushed into the end, consistent with a “Molotov cocktail” device. Broken glass, consistent with the bottles, was found in the area leading investigators to believe “Molotov cocktail” devices were used to start the fire. Police and fire investigators are working to identify the person, or people, responsible for the fire that caused significant damage to the area. If anyone has information on the incident, contact Flagstaff Police at (928) 774-1414 or call Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.
