Flagstaff Police Arrest A Man Friday For Burning A Mailbox At The Plaza Way Safeway

Flagstaff Police arrested a man after allegedly lighting a mail box on fire at the South Plaza Way Safeway early Friday morning. Officers were called to the store at around 5:15 a.m. Witnesses told officers they saw a man wearing a black jacket. Investigators viewed many video recordings and saw a man put paper into the mail box. They then saw a flash of light after the man appeared to strike something. Fire officials say a liquid accelerant was used during the fire. Officers later found a man in the 11-hundred block of West Route 66, matching the description officers saw in the video. They arrested 66-year-old Robert Rickman for arson. They found lighter fluid, lighters, matches and drugs on his possession. Rickman was booked into the Coconino County Jail on arson, drug and disorderly conduct charges. The mailbox sustained significant damage before a Safeway employee put out the fire with an extinguisher. No one was injured in the incident.
