Flagstaff Police arrested a man, who was seen burglarizing a vehicle in Flagstaff Saturday. Officials say the crime happened at around 3:15 p.m. in the area of WC Riles and Benton Avenue. A bystander alerted a police sergeant, who was in the area, about the crime. The sergeant attempted to make contact with the man, as he recognized him as a suspect in several recent burglaries where numerous items were stolen, including firearms. As a result the officer believed the man could be armed. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Hector Almendarez of Flagstaff. Almendarez ran from the sergeant and entered a home on Benton Avenue, where two other people were inside. After a short time, a woman was released from the home. A short time after the woman’s release, Almendarez came out of the home and was taken into custody without further incident. A firearm was found on his possession. Almendarez was booked into the Coconino County Jail on two counts of burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
