Flagstaff Planning And Zoning Discuss A New Commercial Project And High Occupancy Housing

The Flagstaff Planning and Zoning Commission met Wednesday evening to discuss a couple of items pertaining to updates to zoning and the High Occupancy Housing Specific Plan. The committee recommended approval of annexation of about a quarter of an acre located off North Highway 89. The project will be home to a new Verizon store, a drive-through Dunkin Donuts restaurant and a Chipotle restaurant. The land is currently home to a Pizza Hut. P&Z also discussed details of amendments to the zoning code of the High Occupancy Housing Specific Plan, specifically modifications to the code’s Compatible Development and additional Conditional Use Permit criteria. These changes are in regard to the goals, policies and implementation strategies of the plan. The committee talked about specifics, such as parking density and building height requirements. On a large scale, the plan aims to create continuity in aesthetics across the city and maximize spatial occupancy and density. No action was required by the commission and they did not vote on the motion.
