A Flagstaff man, known to those who knew him as “Hippy Jerry,” was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Colorado Tuesday evening. Colorado State Patrol officials say 63-year-old Jerold Lunsford of Flagstaff was killed when he lost control of his truck around a curve, after driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 145. He collided head-on with a ten-wheel tar tanker near Taylor Creek, Colorado at around 6:19 p.m. Lunsford was reportedly heading to Telluride, Colorado at the time of the accident. He was wearing his seat belt at the time and no drugs or alcohol is suspected. The driver of the tanker suffered minor injuries. Lunsford was alone at the time of the accident.
