A Flagstaff man was found dead Friday morning in his cell in the Coconino County Detention Center. Officials were conducting a security and welfare check at around 1:35 a.m. and found 33-year-old Francisco Jesus-Rumaldo Rivera hanging by a bed sheet, tied to the ladder of his bunk. Life-saving measures were conducted on Rivera, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. Rivera had been arrested by Flagstaff Police Wednesday on six counts of forgery, two counts of theft, and fleeing from an officer. He was being held on $25-thousand bond. Rivera was housed in a cell with another inmate in the COVID-19 Quarantine housing unit. The other inmate told officers he was asleep and not aware of what Rivera was doing. No foul play is suspected.
