Flagstaff Junior Academy’s Kristin Patterson has been named 2020 Coconino County Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made Friday by the Coconino County School Superintendent’s Office. Teacher of the Year is the countywide event created to celebrate, honor and recognize full-time charter, private and public-school certified teachers from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. This year a total of 14 certified teachers were nominated. Teachers completed and submitted a detailed essay application along with three letters of support to be in the running for the Arizona Teacher of the Year title. The 2020 Teacher of the Year Ambassadors for Excellence winners are Lynn Patton from Mount Elden Middle School and Todd Van Hoesen from Haven Montessori. The 2020 Rookie Teacher of the Year winner is Ashley Curtin from Killip Elementary. The 2020 Rookie Teacher of the Year Ambassadors for Excellence are Tessa Alexander from Williams High School and Langley Vannoy from Sinagua Middle School. Each of the finalists will receive cash prizes, automatic nomination for the Arizona Teacher of the Year Award and various other prizes. The Teacher of the Year also wins a one-year leased Toyota vehicle from Findlay Toyota.
