Flagstaff Fire crews were called to an area of Lake Elaine Friday on a report of a man stuck in mud up to his waist. When crews arrived they saw the man, who walked into the marshy and recently drained western portion of the lake, and sunk three feet into the mud. Personnel were able to get to a drier part of the lake and threw a rope to the man, 20 feet away and pulled him to safety. Fire officials remind people that as conditions begin to dry out and local lakes and bodies of water begin to recede, surrounding water areas can still be dangerous to animals and humans. Be safe around water at all times.
