The Flagstaff Fire Department is once again holding its free firewood giveaway. Officials say the event will be held Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. until the wood is gone on Saturday. The site is located on the north side of West Route 66. Officials say to travel west on I-40, and exit and turn north onto Flagstaff Ranch Road then proceed to West Route 66 then turn east. The entry gate will be on the left a quarter mile ahead. Through town, the access gate is on the north side of West Route 66, a quarter-mile west of the city’s public works yard. The wood is ponderosa pine and was cut to 16-18 inch lengths over the past several months. No chain saws will be allowed on site. Four-wheel trucks are recommended, but trailers won’t be allowed. The wood is from a recent thinning project designed to protect the community from wildfire and improve the ecosystem.
