Flagstaff Fire crews tended to a possible wildfire Saturday night in Flagstaff. Crews were called to an area off Herold Ranch Road at around 10:30 p.m. Crews heading to the scene could see a large glow in the sky and smoke coming from the area. When arriving they saw the fire at about a quarter-acre, with trees torching and very active fire behavior. Multiple wildland units from the city were dispatched. Crew members worked late into the night in order to gain full control. The area contained old slash piles while presented heavy fuel loads and required a lot of water to put out. Numerous water tenders were used. There’s no word on what started the fire. Fire officials remind people that even though we are just starting to experience warm weather, people are getting outdoors more, so please keep in mind that conditions in the forests are very dry.
