The City of Flagstaff has filed an emergency temporary restraining order against Desert Mountain Energy. The city is seeking an immediate evidentiary hearing to stop drilling of an oil and gas well located on state land next to the city owned Red Gap Ranch. The city acquired the ranch in 2005 to develop a regional water supply pipeline benefiting not only Flagstaff, but Northern Arizona, including Hopi Tribe ranch lands and the Navajo Nation. The city claims action by DME in drilling wells to access helium and hydrocarbons, and potentially engage in well stimulation or fracking near RGR, could permanently damage the water quality of the city’s municipal water supply. The city says it intends to vigilantly defend its water rights and any actions that threaten the integrity of the regional water supply and its water quality.
