Flagstaff City Council To Hold Special Session And Work Session Tuesday

The Flagstaff City Council will hold a special session and a work session Tuesday afternoon virtually. In the special session, council will discuss a resolution authorizing a settlement to Tremayne Nez. Nez was arrested on June 18th, 2019 at his home on a warrant on drug charges. He was in jail for 30 hours before his family posted bail. Flagstaff Police issued a statement after his release, apologizing to Nez saying he had been “incorrectly identified as having sold drugs.” Nez sued then sued the city. The city reached a settlement with Nez for $75-thousand. In the work session, council will receive a downtown visioning plan update, updates from La Plaza Vieja and the Southside neighborhoods, as well as receive an update on the Rio de Flag Flood Control Project. Council will meet on December 15th and will change hands. Mayor Coral Evans, councilmember Charlie Odegaard and councilmember Jamie Whelan will leave council and Mayor-elect Paul Deasy and councilmembers-elect Becky Daggett and Miranda Sweet will be sworn in, along with Jim McCarthy who won re-election. Mayor Evans will go on to become the director of the Northern Arizona office of Senator Mark Kelly. Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 3 p.m. and can be viewed on the city’s website.
