At the start of the Flagstaff City Council meeting on Tuesday, several public participants spoke in opposition to proposed changes for updates to the Downtown Connection Center. At the March 30th work session, council recommended that a proposed civic space be changed into a parking lot to ensure sufficient parking for downtown residents, workers, and tourists, with the option of converting it to a civic space at a later date. Dr. Tracey Moore, with the Southside Community Association called the idea a contradiction, suggesting that “promises [were] being made with one hand and taken away with the other.” Other participants encouraged more thorough studies on parking to ensure the civic space can be preserved at the DCC, and others criticized the impact such a decision could have on the Southside Community.
