Flagstaff City Council Approves Its “Carbon Neutrality Plan”

The Flagstaff City Council went through a full agenda at Tuesday’s meeting. Council passed the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget, as well as the city’s Carbon Neutrality Plan. Mayor Paul Deasy says a plan is in place, but the public will still have input on what’s approved in the plan. He says “it’s a framework, it’s setting our policy goals.” Deasy adds, “it doesn’t mean we are raising takes, which actually we didn’t raise the property tax levy this year. Every step of the way here forward, we’re moving toward carbon neutrality.” He says they are looking at different options so the city won’t be on the hook for the money that would need to go into some of the projects. Council also approved a resolution updating zoning for “Neighborhood Community Commercial” zoning for Sunnyside, Southside and the north end. The resolution calls for building heights lowered in the code from 60 to 45 feet. Council will tackle bicycle and pedestrian safety in Flagstaff in the near future.
