The Flagstaff boys and girls basketball teams battled the Deer Valley Skyhawks Thursday night. On the girls side, Gracelyn Nez scored 21 of her 25 points in the second half, but the Skyhawks pulled out a 52-48 overtime win over Flagstaff. The Eagles lead after one, 9-7 then Deer Valley went on a 9-0 run to end the half and take a 22-15 halftime lead. The Skyhawks held the Eagles to no field goals in the second quarter. Flagstaff then came out firing in the third quarter, with Gracelyn Nez scoring 12 points in the third quarter to lead the Eagles to a 33-29 lead after three. Deer Valley took the lead mid-way through the final quarter and tried to slow the game down, however the Eagles tied the game at 42 and missed a shot at the buzzer. The Skyhawks took over in overtime as Izzy Majarucon scored six of her 15 points in the extra period to lead Deer Valley to the win. Nadya Guiterrez scored 14 points and hit four three-pointers in the win. On the boys side, the Eagles went down to the valley to try to get an upset win, but the Skyhawks got the victory 69-43. The Eagles will host the Prescott Badgers Friday, while the girls head to Prescott.
