Flagstaff Beats Shadow Mountain To Advance To Its First Girls 4A Title Game In 30 Years

The Flagstaff Eagles got out to a fast start in Thursday 4A Girls Semifinal basketball game Thursday and didn’t look back as they beat the Shadow Mountain Matadors, 56-34, to advance to their first 4A state championship game in 30 years. The Eagles outscored the Matadors 18-4 in the first quarter and held the Matadors to single digits until late in the first half to lead 29-12. Gracelyn Nez led the Eagles with 12 points and Sage Begay had 11 as ten Eagles scored in the contest. They will take on the Salpointe Catholic Lancers Monday night for the 4A state championship at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. It’s the first trip to the championship game since 1992, which is the last time they got to cut down the nets as champions. Monday’s tip time is at 6 p.m.
