Flagstaff Beats Deer Valley In The 4A Semis, 68-49, To Advance To Second Straight Title Game

The Flagstaff Eagles girls basketball team is going to their second straight 4A state championship game after their 68-49 win over Deer Valley in the semifinals Tuesday evening. The Eagles got off to a good start, leading 9-2, but the Skyhawks fought back to get to within five, 13-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles extended their lead to 29-18 at halftime. Then Flagstaff exploded with a 30-16 third quarter to lead 59-34 after three and coasted to a 68-49 win. Senior guard Sage Begay led the Eagles with 19 points, nine coming in the third quarter. Jazmine Dugi caught fire in the second half, scoring 18 points all after halftime, including four three-pointers. Freshman Bella Burcar added 14 points, all in the first half in the win. The Eagles will the fourth-seeded Pueblo Warriors, who upset top-seed Mesquite Thursday night, for the 4A state title at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.
