Flagstaff Beats Coconino, Advances To The 4A State Quarterfinals Saturday

The fifth-seeded Flagstaff Eagles struggled in the first quarter, but rebounded nicely to beat the 12th-seeded Coconino Panthers 63-28 in the first round of the 4A Girls State Basketball Playoffs. Freshman Miyah Verse scored 28 points and Sage Begay added 12 points in the win. Kiana Manuelito scored nine points to lead the Panthers. The Eagles will get to stay home and play in War Memorial Gymnasium Saturday night as they host the 13th-seeded Rio Rico Hawks in the state quarterfinals. Rio Rico upset fourth-seed Greenway Wednesday night 57-50. Saturday’s game is at 7 p.m. and we will have the game on KAFF Country 93.5/AM 930 starting at 6:45 p.m.
