Five additional detention employees have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Camp Verde Detention Center. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say of the five, a majority of them said symptoms were relatively minor with at last one appearing asymptomatic. Last week, a counselor at the facility passed away after getting sick with symptoms of COVID-19. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say the person worked for Wexford Health Sources at the center. After several days in the hospital for various medical concerns, the counselor died. During his hospital stay, he was tested for COVID-19 in part due to his age. The day following the person’s death, test results came back positive. Sheriff Mascher immediately directed staff to set up testing for those who came in contact with the employee. Since testing began, six members of the jail support staff have tested positive and are currently quarantined. Currently no inmates have tested positive for COVID-19.
