Fire Weather Watch In Effect For Most Of Northern Arizona Monday

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Monday for much of Coconino, Navajo and Apache Counties. The National Weather Service says expect strong winds and low humidities today, which makes conditions ripe for the spread of a wildfire should one start. The watch is in effect from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. for areas including: The Navajo and Hopi nations, Winslow, Holbrook, the White Mountains and portions of the Coconino, Kaibab and Apache-Sitgreaves national forests. Winds are forecast to be 20-to-30 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour at times. If you are traveling today, especially in a high profile vehicle, use caution. Also, if you’re pulling a trailer, make sure chains are up off the highway and don’t toss cigarettes out of your vehicle. One spark could start a fire that could spread very quickly.
